Types of Apple Accounts

There are two types of Apple Accounts, each with a different purpose in the Apple ecosystem.

Personal Apple Accounts

Individuals create personal Apple Accounts for personal use. These accounts provide access to personal data and services on devices. Users manage their own account settings and security.

Managed Apple Accounts

Organizations such as businesses and schools create and manage these accounts through Apple Business or Apple School Manager. Managed Apple Accounts give organizations control over password resets, roles, and federation with an identity provider (IdP).
