### About Issues with Managed OS for macOS

Understanding how Managed OS works can make it easier to troubleshoot when something doesn’t go as expected. Managed OS for macOS uses [Declarative Device Management (DDM)](/en/endpoint/library/managed-os/declarative-device-management-and-managed-os) on all supported macOS versions. Iru Endpoint declares the required macOS version and enforcement deadline to the device. The operating system then handles the downloading, caching, user notifications, and installation.

### How It Works

When you configure Managed OS for macOS in Iru Endpoint, you set a minimum version and deadline. Iru sends that as a declaration to the device. The operating system then:

* Checks for available updates from Apple
* Downloads and caches updates
* Notifies the user according to your deadline
* Enforces installation at the scheduled time

Iru Endpoint displays the status that macOS reports (such as Downloading, Cached, Installing) so you can track progress in the Iru Endpoint Web App. For more on how DDM works and what you’ll see in the admin and user experience, see [Declarative Device Management and Managed OS](/en/endpoint/library/managed-os/declarative-device-management-and-managed-os).
